The first Vegetarian festival for our region is in the works for this fall.
Peterborough VegFest will be an opportunity for people in the Peterborough area and beyond to sample and learn about the delicious benefits of a plant-based diet. The event will take place at Millennium Park on Sunday, Sept.17th.
Vegetarianism is growing in popularity around the globe, inspired by concerns about health, the environmental costs of meat and dairy, compassion for animals, and a growing awareness that far from being bland, a plant-based diet can be richly varied and delicious. Volunteers in cities across Ontario organize local VegFests, including Kingston, Guelph, Hamilton, London, and Toronto.
“We want to show people in our region that a plant-based diet is tasty, economical, and better for your health than a meat-centred diet,” says Natalie Stephenson, Chair of Peterborough VegFest. “We also want to encourage them to support our local farmers. We’ve timed the festival to take advantage of the harvest season, and Local Food Month in Peterborough.”
Peterborough VegFest will offer much more than great food. With live music, demonstrations, and a children’s area, there will be something in store for everyone, from vegan to veg-curious!
